5 Ways to Avoid Workplace Injuries

Accidents happen in the workplace. And while it's impossible to avoid them entirely, there are a few steps you can take to ensure they occur less frequently.

1. Preparation

Whether you're a new hire or a seasoned vet, it's important to know and understand your offices' safety procedures. Learn evacuation routes and hazardous zones. Know where every eyewash, shower and fire extinguisher is located. If you work with machinery, really get to know them, understand their ins and outs. And if you're an employer, develop comprehensive training materials to help your employees be as prepared as possible.

2. Slow and Steady

When working with chemicals or heavy machinery, we can't stress enough to take your time and avoid shortcuts. Rushing to get the job done can sometimes lead to careless mistakes and accidents.

3. Wear Protective Equipment

Be it safety goggles, hard hats, gloves, or even reflective materials depending on your line of work - these items go a long way in preventing injuries.

4. Orderly & Organized

It's incredibly important to maintain a tidy workplace that's free of clutter and debris. This may seem like an easy step, but poor housekeeping like unattended spills and obstructions can lead to serious injuries.

5. Monitor Progress

Even after adequate training and preparation, you should reinforce safety procedures whenever you get the chance. And even consider rewarding employees who practice safety standards and remain injury free for a specific amount of time.
