Employee Spotlight: Jeff Harwanko

Our resident design guru and product extraordinaire, Jeff Harwanko and his humble, but mighty team is responsible designing and developing Speakman product and packaging, as well as creating our installation and training manuals and specification pages. We invite you to get to know a little bit more about the man behind the Speakman fixtures you know and love today.

Question: How long have you been at Speakman?

Jeff: I have been with Speakman for over 11 years. Whew!

Q: What’s your favorite part about working at Speakman?

J: I love seeing what can be accomplished when a great team of people work together.

Q: What inspires you when you design?

J: Everything from Architecture to Sculpture, Furniture Design, Interior Design, and even Automotive.

Q: What’s the coolest project you’ve worked on to date?

J: Wow, that’s a tough one. From a product perspective, I would say the Opera Collection. It was great to see the progression of starting with just a shower head to evolving into a full-fledged assortment. From a packaging perspective, I would say the most recent packaging overhaul. It is the first time, that I know of, when all channels of packaging were tackled as a whole to ensure the brand identity, recyclability, and longevity were incorporated.

Q: Who would you most like to swap places with for a day and why?

J: Of all time?....Hmmmm….I would say Raymond Loewy. He was a pioneer in American Industrial Design.

Q: What’s your secret talent that no one knows about?

J: I make killer pancakes!

Q: What’s your favorite Speakman product?

J: The Speakman Reaction Shower Head. The amount of science and engineering that went into that shower head is staggering. It really was a great marriage of form and function. We were able to translate quantitative data into a qualitative experience.
